The flight was without incident, unless by ‘incident’ you include the uproar in the town, when an alien spacecraft roared in for a vertical landing on the well-tended grounds of the local university to meet us, unfortunately marring the lawn with deep divots where the skids sank into the soggy ground. For the touchdown at Credenhill, I engaged the inflatable pads under the skids, spreading the weight of the Panther over a wider area. I also kept the belly jets above idle as Smythe stiffly walked out and away, flashing a thumbs up when he was at a safe distance. He had invited me to dinner with the SAS, but I begged for a rain check, hopefully on a day when it was not pouring down rain. Mostly, I was eager to see Jesse and Dave again, and thought it would be nice to fly them and the rest of the Mavericks down from their ship.

Also, Perkins and I had a lot to talk about, I wanted a private discussion before UNEF Command and the Pentagon got to her.
